Two policemen, including an officer, were killed in a militant attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir's Anantnag district Saturday, in the second such terror attack on Indian security forces in the area in the past 24 hours.

"The two policemen were deployed near a bus stand in Anantnag when militants suddenly opened indiscriminate fire on them, killing both on the spot. They were rushed to a hospital where both were declared brought dead," he said, on condition of anonymity.

This is the second major attack on Indian security forces in the past 24 hours in the district that is to go to polls on June 22 and from where the northern state's first woman Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is contesting for an assembly seat.

On Friday, three Indian border guards were killed and seven others injured when militants, said to be belonging to terrorist group Hizbul Mujahideen, ambushed their convoy at Bijbehara area. The border guards were returning from leave when the incident took place. Endit
