Xinhua, June 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

Guinea Bissau President Jose Mario Vaz on Thursday formed a new governmental team led by Prime Minister Baciro Dja whose appointment is contested by the majority party, African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC).

According to a presidential decree, the new government which will replace that led by Carlos Correia that was dismissed on May 12, will have 31 members.

In the new government, Eduardo Costa Sanha will serve as the defense minister, while Botche Cande will serve as the interior minister and Henrique Horta dos Santos will serve as the finance minister.

The foreign affairs ministry was not filled and there was no official explanation.

Among the former cabinet ministers, only Malam Jaura of tourism was re-appointed to government.

The appointment of Dja has been contested by PAIGC that won the legislative elections and which, according to the Constitution, should nominate the head of government. Endit
