Chinese in Dubai allowed to swap driving license without taking replacement test

Xinhua, June 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

Chinese residents living in Dubai can easily switch their driving licenses by applying for a valid United Arab Emirates (UAE) driving permission, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said here Thursday.

Chinese residents are from now on excluded from the light driver's license replacement tests, according to the RTA.

An agreement was signed providing for reciprocal recognition of driving licenses between the UAE and China, Dubai daily Gulf News reported.

Jamal Al-Sada, an RTA official, was quoted in the report as saying "certain terms and conditions must be met to replace a foreign driving license, including the applicant holding a valid residency visa in the UAE, and a valid Chinese driving license, besides meeting the age limit of 18."

In addition, the applicant must pass the eye test, and submit a certified translation of his or her driving license from an accredited translation office.

Over 300,000 Chinese nationals live in the UAE. People from countries like Germany and Britain have for many years do not have to take light driver's license replacement tests in Dubai. Endit
