The United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan has ordered Wednesday in Abu Dhabi the release of 1,010 inmates before the Islamic spiritual month of Ramadan which is expected to start on June 6.

The UAE state news agency WAM quoted the president that he hopes the pardoned inmates will take an opportunity to start a new life and bring stability to their families.

Mass pardons are common in the Islamic world ahead of the month of fasting, the Ramadan. In the UAE, the president and the rulers of the seven sheikhdoms have the right to pardon prisoners. Endit
