1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares close mixed Wednesday

Xinhua, June 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Chinese stocks closed mixed on Wednesday following the sharp rally the previous day, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.11 percent, at 2,913.51 points.

The smaller Shenzhen index closed 0.48 percent higher at 10,209.14 points.

Combined trading on the two bourses rose to 653.99 billion yuan (about 99.26 billion U.S. dollars) from 631.57 billion yuan the previous trading day.

The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.42 percent to close at 2,168.82 points.

Nearly 50 shares surged by the daily limit of 10 percent. Stocks related to rare-earth permanent magnets, lithium batteries and electronic manufacturing were among the biggest winners.

The market soared on Tuesday thanks to rising optimism that global stock index compiler MSCI may add China's A-share market into its index.

MSCI has been reviewing whether to add yuan-denominated A shares into its widely-tracked benchmarks and will announce its decision next month.

The market seemed to show little reaction to the latest data on China's manufacturing sector. The purchasing managers' index (PMI) for May came in at 50.1, the same as in April, official data showed on Wednesday. Endi
