Iran seeks long term economic relationship with outside world: FM

Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif said in Helsinki on Tuesday that Iran would seek long term economic relationship with the outside world.

Zarif told reporters that the world's interests in making business with Iran had been massive since the nuclear agreement came into force this spring. The agreement lifted the sanctions against Iran and opened the country's market opportunities to the outside world.

Zarif said Iran did not seek a single trade but rather the long-term economic relationship with "the European and other friends of ours," Finnish news agency STT reported.

The only obstacle, the foreign minister said, was European banks' sensitivities to the financing arrangements.

Zarif visited Finland with a large business delegation on Tuesday. He said Iran and Finland had a lot of opportunities to promote trade ties.

During his visit, he discussed with the Finnish Minister of Foreign Affairs Timo Soini on the bilateral relations, regional questions in the Middle East, the relations between Iran and the European Union, as well as other international issues.

He also met with Finnish President Sauli Niinisto and Speaker of Parliament Maria Lohela. Endit
