Myanmar forms committee to implement peace, development in W. state

Xinhua, May 31, 2016 Adjust font size:

Myanmar on Tuesday formed a 27-member Central Committee for Implementation of Peace and Development in Rakhine State with State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi as chairperson, according to an announcement of the President's Office.

A total of 20 cabinet ministers are included in the formation.

On March 29, a day before a new government took office, the previous government lifted the state of emergency imposed on Rakhine state for nearly four years since June 10, 2012 when unrest and violence in the state, triggered by communal conflicts, escalated.

The state of emergency was then lifted across the state as no more threats to lives and property of the people were found, according to a report submitted by the Rakhine state government. Endite
