"Alice Through the Looking Glass" rules Chinese box office

"Alice Through the Looking Glass" reigned the Chinese mainland's box office in the week ending May 29, earning 176 million yuan (about 26.7 million U.S. dollars) in its opening weekend.

The American fantasy-adventure, starring Johnny Depp, was closely followed by "The Angry Birds Movie," which pulled in a total of 145 million yuan in the week, China Film News reported Tuesday.

Superhero blockbuster "Captain America: Civil War" landed in third, with 56 million yuan. It has made 1.223 billion yuan after its release on May 6.

Fourth place went to "The Divergent Series: Allegiant," starring Shailene Woodley and Theo James, which rang up 43 million yuan in the seven days.

Rounding out the top five was domestic romance "Finding Mr. Right 2," which took in 15 million yuan in the week. The domestic movie has grossed more than 780 million yuan since its debut on April 29. Endi
