5 UN peacekeepers killed in ambush in central Mali

Xinhua, May 30, 2016 Adjust font size:

Five peacekeepers were killed and one seriously injured in an ambush on Sunday against a convoy of the UN peacekeeping mission in Mali (MINUSMA), along Tenenkou-Sevare road in central Mali, an official source has said.

In a statement that did not give precise information about the nationalities of the victims, nor the perpetrators of the ambush, head of MINUSMA Mahamat Saleh Annadif "strongly condemned the incident."

This crime, he continued, is an addition to other terrorist acts that have targeted peacekeepers, something that constitutes crimes against humanity according to international law.

"This odious terrorist act is more appalling as it was carried out on the International Day of the United Nations Peacekeepers," he affirmed.

He said "every effort will be done to identify the perpetrators of the odious crime against UN peacekeepers." Endit
