Xinhua, May 30, 2016 Adjust font size:

A first-half header from Paulo Henrique Ganso was enough to give Sao Paulo a 1-0 home victory over local rivals Palmeiras in Brazil's Serie A championship on Sunday.

The former Brazil international midfielder nodded in Bruno Vieira's cross in the 12th minute at the Morumbi stadium as Sao Paulo rose to sixth in Brazil's Serie A standings.

In Volta Redonda, Ganso's one-time Brazil teammate Fred struck in the 51st minute to hand Fluminense a 1-0 victory over Botafogo.

In Porto Alegre, Gremio rose to the top of the standings after goals from Luan and Everton fired them to a 2-0 victory over Coritiba.

Gremio's Porto Alegre rivals Internacional climbed to second place when Aylon came off the bench to score the winner in a 1-0 victory over Santos.

In other matches on Sunday, Flamengo won 2-1 at Ponte Preta, Atletico Mineiro drew 1-1 at Vitoria and Corinthians won 2-0 at Sport Recife. Endit
