Real Madrid celebrate conquest of Champions League

Real Madrid celebrated the winning of the 11th Champions League in the club' s history on Sunday evening as they visited the City Hall and made a tour of the Spanish capital which ended with a party in the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

Real Madrid defeated local rivals, Atletico Madrid on penalties after 120 minutes in Saturday' s Champions League final, which was played in Milan ended 1-1 with goals from Sergio Ramos and Yannick Carrasco.

It was the second celebration of the day after Sunday morning saw the Madrid players present the Champions League trophy to fans at the Cibeles fountain in the heart of the capital after arriving back on from Milan at around 7.00am local time.

Despite the rain which fell on Madrid on Saturday night, thousands of supporters had stayed up celebrating until the team arrived back in the capital and the sun was up by the time they arrived at Cibeles.

Sunday evening was a slightly more formal affair with the Champions League trophy presented to Manuela Carmena the Mayor of Madrid at the Madrid City Hall and Cristina Cifuentes, the President of the Community of Madrid.

With the formalities over the players, coach, Zinedine Zidane and club President, Florentino Perez returned to the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, which was also packed with fans to celebrate their title with a party and a spectacular fireworks display. Endit
