Afghan forces kill 9 militants, wounds 13 in northern district

Xinhua, May 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

Afghan forces backed by aircrafts had killed nine Taliban militants and injured more than a dozen others in Baghlan-e-Markazi district of the northern Baghlan province since Saturday, an army spokesman in the province, Brigadier Abdul Latif, said Sunday.

"Since Saturday morning, nine Taliban rebels have been killed and 13 others injured in Baghlan-e-Markazi district, leaving the insurgents to flee the area," Latif told reporters here.

Several villages have been liberated from Taliban clutches and the government forces are chasing the fleeing rebels, the official asserted.

Baghlan-e-Markazi district has been the scene of fierce fighting between Taliban and security forces over the past couple of weeks, leaving dozens of houses damaged, destroyed and scores of people homeless, according to locals.

Taliban militants who are active in parts of Baghlan province with Pul-e-Khumri as its capital are yet to make comment. Enditem
