Xinhua, May 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

Sudan National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) on Saturday declared that it dismantled a rebel cell that was planning to carry out a sabotage act in eastern Sudan, Sudanese Media Center (SMC) reported.

"The NISS has managed to dismantle a cell belonging to the rebel Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM)/northern sector with large amounts of ammunition, weapons and military gear in its possession. The cell was planning to carry out a sabotage act in eastern Sudan," Director of NISS's organized crime division was quoted as saying.

He said the members of the cell have been arrested with military gear, ammunition and weapons in their possession together with identification cards and documents proving their affiliation to the SPLM/northern sector.

The items seized with the members of the cell included a vehicle, 24,725 rounds of Kalashnikov, 350 grenades, one RPG pullet, 11 Kalashnikov magazines, 10 military boots and 43 military belts besides a great number of military gear, clothing, badges, IDs and various military ranks, according to the report.

The SPLM/northern sector has been fighting the Sudanese government at South Kordofan and Blue Nile states since 2011. Endit
