Shanghai wins 6th straight game in CWSL

Xinhua, May 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

Defending champion Shanghai won its sixth straight game by defeating Shandong 2-0 in the 8th round of the Chinese Women's Super League (CWSL) on Saturday, remaining on the top of the standings.

Shanghai broke the ice in the 11th minute through Yang Lina's follow shot on the rebound of Li Jiayue's volley in front of the penalty zone. Wang Tingting of Shangdong almost scored the equalizer before the half time, but her powerful shot hit the post-bar.

Tang Jiali, who had been one of three candidates for the "Young Player Award" in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup, missed a solo run in the 60th minute, but the 21-year-old made it up six minutes later to seal the win.

In the other two games on Saturday, Dalian edged Beijing 1-0 while Juangsu beat Tianjin 1-0.

The Chinese national women's soccer team will be built up to prepare for the Rio Olympic Games during the coming-up season break.

China will face host Brazil to kick off its Olympic journey. Endit
