1st Ld-Writethru: Chinese shares end lower Friday

China's stocks remained lackluster on Friday as investors continued to take a wait-and-see attitude.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went down 0.05 percent at 2,821.05 points, and the smaller Shenzhen index closed 0.13 percent lower at 9,813.63 points.

The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.77 percent to close at 2,069.89 points.

Trading on the two bourses stayed low. Total turnover dropped to 378.41 billion yuan (58.22 billion U.S. dollars), down by nearly 15 billion yuan from the previous trading day.

Market sentiment was cautious due to worries about the country's economic health.

Profit growth at China's major industrial firms slowed sharply in April, official data showed on Friday, adding to concerns about growing downward pressure on the economy.

Shares in oil, non-ferrous metal and ceramic industries led the decline. Endi
