Australians will be able to see the true horrors of the Second World War (WWII) in China when a joint China-Australia documentary airs on local television in September.
China Central Television's (CCTV) Science and Education Channel and Australia's WildBear Entertainment have created a two-part documentary on the Japanese invasion of China, utilizing footage from Chinese archives not previously seen outside of China.
Titled "The War That Changed the World: Making of a New China," the documentary to air on local cable television carefully explains how the war against Japanese aggression that started in 1931 is essentially the beginning of WWII in the east, CCTV News Center Deputy Director Peng Jianming told the premier screening in Sydney on Friday.
"Unfortunately not many people fully understand the full story of history," Peng said.
"The resistance from China (against Japanese aggression) is like a missing jigsaw in the World War II story."
"We have the responsibility to complete this missing piece in the jigsaw."
The collaborative approach was what made the project a success, WildBear's chief executive Michael Tear said.
The two-part documentary is scheduled to air on Australian cable TV provider Foxtel's History Channel in September following CCTV's showing in July. Endit
