Tokyo shares close higher in morning on strong U.S. stocks

Tokyo shares rose Thursday morning as gains on Wall Street overnight lifted the market.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 48.28 points, or 0.29 percent, from Wednesday to 16,805.63.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 3.79 points, or 0.28 percent, to 1,346.67.

Notable gainers were mining, pharmaceuticals and land transportation issues. Endit
