Eintracht Frankfurt appoint Fredi Bobic as new sports chairman

Xinhua, May 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

Frankfurt' s supervisory committee has decided unanimously to appoint former German international Fredi Bobic as their new sports chairman, the "Eagles" confirmed in an official statement on Wednesday.

Four days after securing another season in Germany' s top flight thanks to the 2-1 on aggregate against second division side Nuremberg, Frankfurt start with their realignment for the upcoming campaign as Fredi Bobic replaces outgoing chairman Heribert Bruchhagen in June.

"After very good talks I am very pleased that the board placed their trust in me," said Bobic. "Frankfurt is a big club and I know about the big footsteps that my predecessor Heribert Bruchhagen has left behind. I promise that will use all my strength to ensure a successful future."

The former Germany international has put pen to paper on a three-year deal, which binds him with the "Eagles" until June 2019. He will be officially introduced on June 1.

The 44-year-old former striker made overall 285 Bundesliga appearances as well as 37 international caps for Germany to clinch the EURO title in 1996 in England. Bobic started his managing career in Bulgaria in 1996 before he became Stuttgart' s sporting director from 2010 until 2013. Endit
