The Scottish government aims to focus on equal opportunity for everyone in Scotland for the next five years, it was announced on Wednesday.

At the Scottish Parliament, Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon set out plans for building strong public services across Scotland, through education, health, social care and social security, to give everyone the opportunity and support they need to pursue success.

Sturgeon has already made enhancing Scotland's education system and improving opportunities for young people by working to close the attainment gap between those from the least and most disadvantaged backgrounds top priorities for the Scottish government, and has also highlighted economy as central to her vision for the next five years.

Sturgeon's focus on improving wider public services will be built on an ethos of consensus and consideration for the ideas of others' from right across the political spectrum, said a press release.

On Tuesday, the Scottish government made the decisions on the formation of an International Council of Education Advisers, a panel of internationally renowned experts to advise on improvements to Scotland's education system, vowing to build Scotland into a global leader in education through learning lessons from around the world.

"I will pursue our objectives with vigour and determination, but also in a spirit of consensus so that our national parliament can help improve the lives of everyone living in Scotland," said Sturgeon.

The ruling Scottish National party formed a minority government after winning 63 of the 129 seats in the Scottish parliament election held on May 5. Endit
