Subscribers of mobile telephone operators in Benin begin 48-hour strike

Xinhua, May 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

Over seven million Beninese subscribers of the two largest mobile telephone operators in the country, Moov and MTN, on Tuesday began a 48-hour boycott of the services offered by the operators to demand improvement of their services.

Through an association, the subscribers of Moov and MTN decided to boycott the services offered by the two operators for two days, between May 24 and 25.

"The notice is simple: no calls, no SMSs, no Internet connection or use of any services provided by Moov or MTN," the association said.

According to the source, subscribers of MTN and Moov Benin had become victims of "fraud," with "disappearing bundles and call-time that lapses mysteriously."

The association said the boycott is not only meant to push the two operators to have some consideration for their subscribers, but to also improve their services.

According to official statistics, out of nine million people with a mobile phone in Benin, MTN controls 46.83 percent of the market while Moov controls 33.16 percent.

The three other mobile telephone operators are GLO with 17.91 percent, BBCOM with 1.47 percent and LIBERCOME with 0.62 percent. Endit
