Tokyo shares open higher on Wall Street gains, weak yen

Tokyo shares opened higher Wednesday due to gains on Wall Street overnight and the weak yen.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 252.38 points, or 1.53 percent, from Tuesday to 16,751.14.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 18.22 points, or 1.37 percent, at 1,344.72.

Gainers were led by insurance, information and communication, iron and steel issues. Endit
