1st LD Writethru: Policeman killed, 11 injured as blast hits police vehicle in SW Pakistan

Xinhua, May 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least one policeman was killed and 11 others were injured when a bomb went off near a police vehicle in Pakistan's southwest Quetta city on Tuesday night, local Urdu media reported.

Samaa News said the vehicle, which was on its routine patrolling across the city, was hit by the bomb at Spini Road area of Quetta, the capital city of the country's southwest Balochistan province.

Police said some unknown militants fixed explosive materials at the roadside and blew them up with a remote controlled device when the vehicle was passing by.

The injured including five police have been shifted to a nearby hospital where three of them are said to be in critical condition.

Police and security forces rushed to the blast site, following the attack, and cordoned it off for investigations.

No group has claimed responsibility for the blast yet, but outlawed group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and separatist groups in the province remained involved in attacks on security forces in the past.

Earlier on May 10, the TTP claimed a blast at a police vehicle in the city, which left two policemen killed and 11 others injured. Enditem
