Taliban shadow provincial governor killed in S. Afghanistan

Xinhua, May 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

Taliban shadowy governor for the southern Helmand province Mullah Mazamal has been killed as security forces stormed the group's hideouts in Marja district of the troubled province on Monday, provincial police chief, Agha Noor Kintoz said Tuesday.

"The security forces in operations against armed militants targeted their hideouts in Marja district early Monday killing Mullah Mazamal, the Taliban shadow governor for Helmand province, on the spot," Kintoz told Xinhua.

Several more Taliban insurgents were also killed and injured during the crackdown, the official asserted.

Marja, Nad Ali, Sangin, Khanshin and Garmsir districts in the restive Helmand province have been the scene of Taliban-led violent fighting over the past several months.

Taliban militants have't commented on the subject. Endit
