Hollande congratulates Austria's van der Bellen on election victory

French President Francois Hollande on Monday congratulated Alexander van de Bellen on his victory in the Austrian presidential election and expressed hopes to further cooperate with Vienna's ruling team to overcome European challenges.

Hollande also looks forward to working with Austrian Chancellor Christian Kern to boost bilateral partnership and further cement ties "so that Europe will always be able to face the challenges it faces," his office, the Elysee, said in a statement.

The environmentalist Alexander van der Bellen on Monday narrowly defeated far-right Freedom Party candidate Norbert Hofer with 50.3 percent against 49.7 percent of votes. Endit
