Key conference on natural disasters management set for May 30 in Switzerland

The prominent international research body on natural disasters, Interpraevent, will hold its 13th congress in Lucerne of Switzerland from May 30 to June 2, the Swiss Federal Government announced on Monday.

One of the most important events in the field of natural hazards and integral risk management, the Interpraevent 2016 is expected to have over 500 experts gathering to exchange the latest insights from research and practice.

The theme of this year's congress will be "Living with Natural Risks", and the topics being covered will include hazard and risk assessment, crisis management, governance and strategies in dealing with risks, and data surveying and modeling.

Participants will also be able to observe Switzerland's approach to natural hazard management during various excursions.

The research society Interpraevent, which is based in Austria, holds congresses every four years in Europe and every four years in-between in Asia. The last time that Switzerland hosted the congress was in 1992.

The purpose of Interpraevent is to set up preventive protection against disasters and supports interdisciplinary research to protect our living space against flooding, debris flow, avalanches and mass movements. Endit
