Nigeria lauds labor for suspending strike

Xinhua, May 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Nigerian government on Monday lauded the organized labor for suspending its five-day-old strike over government's decision to increase the pump price of petrol.

The Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) had embarked on a nationwide strike on May 18 to protest government's decision to increase the pump price of petrol by 67 percent.

Minister for Information Lai Mohammed, who gave the commendation on the sideline of an interactive session with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Lagos, Nigeria's economic hub, said the suspension of the strike was a win situation for Nigeria.

He expressed the government's commitment to actualizing its change agenda through sustained communication between it and citizens.

According to him, stakeholders' meetings will further enhance information flow between government and the citizenry.

The minister said his ministry would hold quarterly meetings with the CSOs in order to engage Nigerians on national issues. Endit
