U.S. to keep sanctions on some of Myanmar's sectors: Kerry

The United States will keep sanctions on some sectors of Myanmar based on the country's democracy development, visiting U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry told a joint press conference on Sunday with his Myanmar counterpart Aung San Suu Kyi.
He said the U.S. has eased some sanctions on Myanmar recently to mark U.S. support for the new government, however, sanctions are to be maintained on some sectors as "some persons' undertakings need to be changed."
Expressing willingness to help Myanmar in democracy and foreign investment, the U.S. official said in 2012, the U.S. government has funded over 12 million U.S. dollars to the civil society organizations for the sake of peace and national reconciliation.
At the joint press conference, Aung San Suu Kyi reiterated that Myanmar does not fear U.S. sanctions which was imposed previously under certain status, believing that these sanctions would one day be totally lifted in the future. Enditem
