Xinhua signs MoU with UNWTO on strategic cooperation

Xinhua News Agency signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) to strengthen bilateral strategic cooperation on Friday.

According to the MoU signed at Xinhua's headquarters in downtown Beijing, the two sides will enhance cooperation in areas of common interest and in important UNWTO-hosted activities, such as the First World Conference on Tourism Development and World Tourism Day activities. The UNWTO will facilitate relevant Xinhua reports.

The UNWTO is the 11th UN organization that signed MoU with Xinhua.

Xinhua President Cai Mingzhao said tourism plays a unique role in promoting understanding and world peace and helps drive sustainable global economic growth.

Xinhua will continue to support the UNWTO and global tourism development, Cai said.

UNWTO Secretary-General Taleb Rifai said the MoU will strengthen cooperation between the UNWTO and Xinhua. He hopes the two sides will concretely implement the agreement and expand areas of cooperation.

Rifai also attended the First World Conference on Tourism Development,which kicked off on Thursday in Beijing. Endi
