Tanzania to use anti-riot trucks in fire operations due to vehicle shortage

Tanzania on Wednesday said it would use anti-riot water cannon trucks in fire and rescue operations as it was facing a shortage of fire fighting vehicles.
Home Affairs Deputy Minister, Hamad Masauni, said that about 32 anti-riot water cannon vehicles would be used in the operations to beef up the country's Fire and Rescue Force.
He admitted there was a shortage of fire fighting trucks to meet demand.
The 32 vehicles are part of the 777 purchased for the Tanzania Police Force last year.
The proposal prompted a debate in the National Assembly, and the opposition criticized the government for allegedly spending money poorly.
Recently, Fire and Rescue Force Commissioner, General Thobias Andenmgenye, expressed concerns that the force was in need of modern equipment to improve its services. Endit
