De Boer leave Ajax with a victory over Liaoning

Xinhua, May 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

"To lose a man more than a halftime to go and still win the game is very pleasing," said Frank de Boer after his last match as head coach of Ajax.

The Dutch runner-up of this season gave a perfect ending to their coach with a 2-0 victory over Chinese Super League club Liaoning on Wednesday.

Liaoning left out some usual starters for the match against Guangdong Hengda in Chinese Super League this weekend. However, Ajax fielded almost the strongest line-up in the match just like Frank de Boer had promised.

Ajax' s centre-back Joel Veltman changed the direction of a shot of his teammate and scored the first goal in the 18th minute.

But Ajax was reduced to 10-man at the 40th minute as the wing-back Tete was shown a red card for a flagrant foul.

Liaoning failed to take the chance while Ajax scored another goal in the last minutes of the game. Endit
