Xinhua, May 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least seven army rangers were injured on Wednesday in a grenade attack aboard a military truck they were riding in southern Philippines, security officials said.

Maj. Filemon Tan Jr., spokesman of the area military unit Western Mindanao Command, said the troopers from the 10th Scout Ranger Company (SRC) were attacked with a grenade at about 5:20 a.m local time in Jolo town, Sulu in southern Philippines.

Tan said investigation disclosed that the soldiers were aboard their military truck on their way back to the base after fetching a companion in a passenger ferry at the wharf of Jolo when the grenade was lobbed coming from unknown direction.

"The soldiers thought first of an unknown hard object that hit the truck then the explosion came in seconds wounding seven of them," Tan said.

He said the soldiers who sustained minor injuries were immediately brought to the military trauma hospital for treatment.

Tan said no one has claimed responsibility for the attack. Endit
