Cuba, Spain eye promotion of ties

Xinhua, May 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

Cuban President Raul Castro met with visiting Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo on Monday, and both sides expressed the willingness to push forward bilateral ties.

Castro and Garcia-Margallo discussed the recent agreements reached between their two nations earlier this month on rearranging Cuba's debt, which amounts to more than 2 billion euros (2.26 billion U.S. dollars), as well as ways to create favorable conditions for achieving that goal.

They also exchanged views on some international issues.

Garcia-Margallo also met on Monday with other senior Cuban officials on promoting economic cooperation between the two countries.

Spain is the largest European investor in Cuba, with more than 200 companies now operating in the Caribbean nation, particularly in the tourism sector. Endi
