Up to seven security members and civilian workers were killed and 24 others wounded on Sunday, as Iraqi security forces foiled an attempt by Islamic State (IS) suicide bombers to seize and destroy a gas plant in a northern suburb of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad.

Iraq has witnessed a wave of violence since the IS group took control of parts of Iraq's northern and western regions in June 2014. Earlier, a report by the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq estimated that 741 Iraqis were killed and 1,374 others were wounded in acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflicts across Iraq in April. HOUSTON -- Eight people were killed and 44 others injured after a charter bus carrying more than 50 passengers crashed in the Webb County in the U.S. state of Texas on Saturday.

It is believed one of the deadliest bus accidents in Texas in recent years. Investigation was underway to determine the cause of the accident. (U.S.-Deaths-Bus Accident)

ADEN, Yemen -- The death toll in Sunday's suicide bombing attack that took place near the gate of a registration camp for police recruits in Yemen's southeastern province of Hadramout rose to 30, a provincial security source said.

The Yemen-based affiliate of the Islamic State (IS) group has officially claimed the suicide bombing that targeted police recruits in Hadramout.

Over the past few weeks, Yemeni government forces and the Saudi-led coalition have been conducting well-planned and unprecedented attacks on key bastions of the al-Qaida terrorist group in the country's southern and eastern regions. The impoverished Arab country, has been gripped by one of the most active regional al-Qaida insurgencies in the Middle East. (Yemen-Terrorism)

FIROZ KOH, Afghanistan -- Up to 16 militants were killed and nearly two dozen others injured as aircraft pounded Taliban hideouts in Pasawand district of the western Ghor province on Sunday.

Cleanup operations backed by air power have been continuing in the area since Saturday. Taliban militants who are active in parts of Ghor and the neighboring Badghis Province have yet to make comment.(Afghanistan-Deaths) Endi
