A seminar on China-Europe film co-production was held on Friday here where the 69th Cannes Film Festival is ongoing.
More than 200 producers, directors and film industry professionals participated in the seminar.
"China is a dynamic film market, and has sufficient investment capital to work with European film professionals to produce wonderful co-production movies," president of the China Film Co-Production Corporation Miao Xiaotian told the participants.
According to him, many Chinese movie companies have established long term cooperation with foreign firms. "The long term strategic cooperation will bring more easily the success of the movie than just a one shot cooperation," he added.
"China produces about 600 movies every year. But we don't have enough directors or producers to support that number. That's why Chinese movie companies look for foreign cooperation, especially with Europe," Miao explained.
Vincent Grimond from Wild Brunch AG echoed Miao's remarks, saying "co-production is not for producing a movie together, but it's for making better movies, and it requires long term cooperation."
According to official figures, 66 of the 90 approved co-production movies were already made in 2015 in China.
For Jerry Ye, CEO of Huayi Brothers Pictures, foreign partners need to know and study the needs of the Chinese audience and Chinese market.
According to The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of the People's Republic of China, China has signed film co-production agreements with countries including Canada, Italy, Australia, France, Spain, UK and India. Endit
