Italy striker Osvaldo sacked by Boca Juniors

Xinhua, May 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Italy international striker Dani Osvaldo has been sacked by Boca Juniors after being caught smoking in the dressing room after a Copa Libertadores match.

The Argentina-born 30-year-old, who has been capped 14 times for Italy, was introduced as a late substitute in the Buenos Aires outfit's 1-1 draw with Uruguay's Nacional in Thursday's quarterfinal first leg.

After the match in Montevideo Osvaldo walked straight into the dressing room while his teammates remained on the pitch to thank their fans.

According to Argentine media reports, Boca officials caught the former Juventus forward puffing on a cigarette in the bathroom.

Boca manager Guillermo Barros Schelotto is understood to have told president Daniel Angelici that he no longer wanted Osvaldo in his squad. Endit
