Rosberg on form in second practice session for Spanish Grand Prix

Xinhua, May 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

World Championship leader, Nico Rosberg was the fastest driver in the second practice session on Friday ahead of Sunday' s Spanish Grand Prix at the Montmelo race circuit close to Barcelona.

Rosberg has won the four races so far this season and is looking for his eighth consecutive Grand Prix triumph.

Should he win that eighth consecutive race, he would draw level in the number of consecutive victories alongside Michael Schumacher, with only Sebastian Vettel, who managed nine wins whilst with the Red Bull team, ahead of him in the modern Formula 1 era.

Rosberg' s fastest lap on Friday afternoon was almost three quarters of a second faster than his Mercedes team-mate and reigning World Champion, Lewis Hamilton, who clocked the third fastest time with Vettel, who now drives for Ferrari, splitting the pair and Kimi Raikkonen fourth.

The first practice session of the day had seen the Ferrari duo of Vettel and Raikkonen post the two fastest times as they used soft tyres for their fastest laps.

Meanwhile home favorites Carlos Saenz and Fernando Alonso gave local fans something to cheer as they posted positive times finishing fifth and seventh in the second training session ahead of Saturday' s qualification. Endit
