Jordan King condemns Baghdad bombing

Xinhua, May 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Jordan on Thursday condemned the terrorist attack in Baghdad that killed dozens of Iraqis on Wednesday, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

King Abdullah II of Jordan sent a cable to Iraqi President Fouad Masoum condemning the attack.

He voiced Jordan' support to Iraq and its efforts to restore stability.

The death toll from a car bomb attack at a marketplace in eastern Iraqi capital of Baghdad on Wednesday, rose to 64 people killed and 87 others wounded, an Interior Ministry source told Xinhua.

The massive blast occurred in the morning when a booby-trapped car went off at a popular outdoor market in the Shiite bastion of Sadr City district, the source said.

The explosion destroyed many stalls and civilian cars and caused damage to several nearby shops and buildings, the source said.

Iraq is currently witnessing a wave of violence since the Islamic State group took control of parts of Iraq's northern and western regions in June 2014. Enditem
