A suicide bomber targeted a security checkpoint in Ghani Khil district of the eastern Nangarhar province on Thursday, killing two people including himself and injured six others, a local official said.

"A terrorist strapping explosive device on his body blew himself up next to a security checkpoint in Ghani Khil district, killing himself and another on the spot and injuring six others," the official told Xinhua but declined to be identified, saying authorized officials would brief the media after completion of investigation.

Villagers also confirmed the suicide attack in Ghani Khil district on Thursday, saying two people including the bomber were killed and six others injured.

Meanwhile, spokesman for Nangarhar provincial governor, Ataullah Khogyani in talks with Xinhua confirmed that a blast rocked Ghani district. However, he did not provide further details.

A similar violent incident in the neighboring Nazyan district of Nangarhar province claimed the lives of 11 people and injured 23 others, mostly civilians, on Tuesday. Endit
