Vietnam's communist party forms new Central Military Commission

The Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) has formed a new Central Military Commission (CMC) of the party.

The CPVCC has recently appointed CMC secretary, deputy secretary as well as its members, reported the Vietnamese government's e-Portal on Wednesday.

According to decision 186-QD/TW issued by the CPVCC Politburo on April 29, 2016, the CMC for the term 2015-2020 includes 23 members.

General Secretary of the CPVCC Nguyen Phu Trong was appointed CMC secretary while Ngo Xuan Lich, member of the CPVCC Politburo, Minister of Defense was appointed deputy secretary of the CMC.

The CMC is the highest party organ on military policy in Vietnam. Its membership includes some members of the Politburo and military leaders.

The Statute of the Communist Party of Vietnam says that the Vietnam People's Army is "under the party's absolute, direct, comprehensive leadership." Endit
