Egypt's Sisi stresses ongoing efforts to establish Palestinian state

Xinhua, May 10, 2016 Adjust font size:

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi said Monday that Egypt will continue working towards establishing a Palestinian state along the June 1967 demarcated borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, according to the state-run MENA news agency.

During a meeting with his visiting Palestinian counterpart, Mahmoud Abbas, Sisi explained that reaching an equitable and comprehensive settlement would enhance regional stability and end the current unrest in the Middle East.

Sisi also highlighted the need to safeguard the genuine Arab doctrines regarding the Palestinian cause, said Egypt's presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef, according to MENA.

The president also affirmed that the Palestinian cause is an Egyptian foreign policy priority.

Sisi emphasized Egypt's steadfast stance regarding its support of the Palestinian issue and the continuous cooperation with all initiatives aiming to support the legitimate rights of Palestinians.

Abbas, in turn, praised Egypt's efforts towards realizing a solution to the Palestinian issue, commending Egypt's historical role in this respect as well as its conduct in both the regional and international arenas.

The Palestinian president also summarized the Palestinian issue's latest developments as well as the ongoing Israeli settlement construction.

He called for an accelerated need to hold an international conference with an international joint structure to end the occupation and establish a Palestinian state within a given timeframe.

Both leaders also discussed mutual cooperation and coordination in addition to efforts to restart Palestinian-Israeli negotiations. Enditem
