85 parties to take part in Burkina Faso local polls

Xinhua, May 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

A total of 85 political parties and independent groups will participate in the municipal elections set for May 22, whose campaigns will start on Saturday, an official source said Thursday.

A source from the National Independent Electoral Commission said there were 72 political parties, one political alliance and 12 independent groupings.

Initially scheduled to take place on Jan. 29, 2016, the municipal elections were postponed due to the attempted coup in Sept. 16, 2015.

Burkinabes will be expected to go to the ballot on May 22 to elect municipal councilors as well as mayors of over 350 communes. Endit
