China ready to enhance partnership with Belgium: senior legislator

Senior Chinese legislator Qiangba Puncog has said China is ready to work together with Belgium to promote the all-round friendly and cooperative partnership of the two countries to achieve more development.

At the invitation of Speaker of Belgian House of Representatives Siegfried Bracke, Qiangba, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, made an official goodwill visit to Belgium on May 1-4.

During the visit, Qiangba has respectively met with Bracke and Speaker of the Belgian Senate Christine Defraigne.

Qiangba said the current China-Belgium relations has maintained a strong momentum of development, and bilateral cooperation in various fields is pragmatic and fruitful.

He said the legislative bodies of the two countries have played a positive role in promoting the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations.

China is ready to work together with Belgium, taking the opportunity of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries this year, to enhance the all-round friendly and cooperative partnership of the two countries to achieve more development, he added.

Belgian officials spoke highly of the ties with China, and expressed gratitude towards China for its supports for Belgian efforts to combat terrorism.

They said that Belgium will continue to strengthen the exchanges between the legislative bodies of the two countries, and expand bilateral friendly cooperation.

Moreover, at the invitation of European Parliament President Martin Schulz, Qiangba has also visited the European Parliament.

The Chinese senior legislator expressed the willingness to enhance the exchanges with the European side on governance experiences so as to promote bilateral ties.

The EU side reiterates its adherence to the one-China policy and expressed the willingness to upgrade the exchanges with Chinese legislature. Endit
