Rain disrupts rail services in NE China

Storms over the past two days in northeast China have put part of the region's rail network out of services, the rail authority said Tuesday.

Torrential rain and wind, up to 102 km per hour in some part of the region, have caused power cuts to sections of the rail network in northeast China, leaving some trains stuck on the tracks.

Maintenance staff have been dispatched and passengers have been advised to re-arrange their trips.

The average precipitation in Liaoning Province was 22.5 mm on Monday and Tuesday but heavy rain pushed this up to 140.1 mm in some regions.

In the provincial capital Shenyang, roads are inundated and pedestrians are struggling to control their umbrellas in the strong winds.

Municipal authorities said they are unclogging gutters and supervising areas where flooding may be a risk. Endi
