Spanish Civil Guards on Tuesday detained four members of a group dedicated to recruiting and spreading propaganda for radical extremists groups, the Interior Ministry said.
The arrest of the four people, three Moroccans and a Spaniard, took place in the towns of Cienpozuelos and Pinto, south of the capital.
The Interior Ministry said the four detainees "led a structure dedicated to the diffusion of terrorist ideology of a jihadist type, as well as the recruitment and radicalization of new members."
It added members of the group "exercised strict control over both the interpretation of jihadist ideology and other aspects of their daily behavior."
The investigation showed the four had developed a stable organization and carried out "intense work of the publication and distribution of jihadist propaganda, through various websites and message applications," which they had used to send messages to "hundreds of people."
Searches are still being carried out as security forces aim to discover more about the detainees and their network of contacts, given that currently these recruitment networks are the "main source of sourcing and enrolling people into the discipline of terrorist groups, especially in Europe," the ministry said.
