7 killed as live wire falls on truck in India

At least seven people were killed and 12 others injured when a high-tension wire fell on a truck carrying them in southern India state of Telangana, officials said Monday.

The accident took place on Sunday night at Medak district, about 96 km north of Hyderabad city, the capital of Telengana.

The victims according to officials were returning after attending a marriage party.

"Last night a high-tension power line snapped and fell on the truck carrying over two dozen people at village Devulanaik Thanda here," P VenkatRama Reddy, joint collector at Medak told Xinhua over telephone. "In the tragedy, seven people lost their lives, while as 12 others were injured due to severe electric shock they suffered."

The condition of six among the injured was stated to be critical.

Most of the Indian cities and villages lack efficient power transmission system. Endit
