Flash flood leaves over 500 homeless in northern Myanmar state

Xinhua, May 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

A flash flood, triggered by week-long torrential rain in Myanmar's northernmost Kachin state, has left 545 people homeless, official report said on Monday.

The flooding in Chibwe township washed away 95 homes with shortage of food, the report said, adding that there were no casualties.

In Myitgyina district, more than 450 people were displaced.

Rescue operation is being carried out by local government, civil organizations, soldiers, red cross members and volunteers who helped local residents clear mud and rocks from roads and build makeshift bridges to ensure access to the villages.

Military helicopters are being used to bring food supplies to flood victims, the report added. Endit
