10 abducted Indonesian sailors freed in S. Philippines

Xinhua, May 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Ten Indonesian kidnapped victims were freed by the terrorist Abu Sayyaf Group on Sunday in southern Philippine province of Sulu, local police said.

Unidentified people dropped the Indonesians, who were crew members of a tugboat and a barge, in front of the house of Sulu Governor Abdusakur Tan II at around noon, Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Police Office said.

The victims underwent medical check-up and debriefing.

The 10 Indonesian sailors were abducted near the Philippine southernmost Tawi-Tawi province on March 26 by armed militants.

The release of the foreign hostages came after about a week since the Abu Sayyaf bandits beheaded Canadian John Ridsdel, one of the four victims whom they seized in a resort in Samal Island in Davao del Norte for failure to pay ransom. Endit
