1 soldier killed, 2 policemen wounded in PKK rocket attack in SE Turkey

Xinhua, April 30, 2016 Adjust font size:

One soldier of the Turkish security forces was killed and two policemen wounded on Saturday in a rocket attack staged by the militants of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) in southeastern Turkey, private Dogan news agency reported.

A group of PKK militants fired rockets against the Turkish troops and police in Nusaybin town of Mardin province bordering Syria during the Turkish military operations against the PKK, wounding one Turkish soldier and two policemen, according to the report.

The wounded were sent to Nusaybin State Hospital for treatment, said the report, adding that the wounded soldier died in hospital.

Since a two-year cease-fire between the government and the PKK disintegrated last July, Turkish security forces have launched a major campaign against the PKK in southeast Turkey, leaving over 260 members of Turkey's security forces and thousands of PKK members dead.

The PKK, waging its separatist war against Turkey since 1984, is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union. Endit
