Xinhua, April 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

A Fijian court on Friday sentenced an Australian man to 14 years in jail for possessing nearly 50 kilograms of cocaine in the Pacific island country.

Australian national Joseph Abourizk, together with Fijian national Josese Muriwaqa, appeared at the Lautoka High Court on Friday and was sentenced to 14 years each behind bars, according to the government-owned Fiji Broadcasting Corporation.

Both men had been found guilty of possessing illicit drugs by Fiji's High Court. They were apprehended by local police last year in the city of Lautoka with parcels of the drug found in their vehicle.

The two will be eligible for parole after serving 12 years. Endit
