Ongoing heavy rains and floods have killed five people and left over 13,000 others homeless in Tanzania's eastern region of Morogoro, authorities said on Thursday.

The killing of the five people by the raging floods brought to 13 the total number of people killed by the deluge in a space of one week after eight others were killed in the east African nation's northern region of Kilimanjaro, leaving hundreds of others homeless. (Tanzania-Flood)

MILAN -- Police in northern Italy on Thursday arrested six suspected extremists, including a couple with two children, who allegedly wanted to join militancy in Syria and Iraq, local media reported.

The couple's children, aged two and four, were entrusted to their grandparents after the arrests. The couple were residents of the northern city of Lecco. (Italy-Extremist)

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan -- A total of 21 Taliban militants including two local commanders were killed as joint operations of army and police are continuing in parts of Chardara district in the northern Kunduz province over the past two days, district governor Zalmai Farooqi said Thursday.

"The cleanup operations launched in Sarak-e-Bala area on Tuesday and so far 21 rebels including two local commanders Mullah Mashfaq and Shah Wali have been killed," Farooqi told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Taliban)

ISTANBUL -- Turkish police on Thursday detained 15 suspects over Wednesday's suicide bomb attack in the northwestern city of Bursa, local media reported.

The suspects were detained in police operations across the country, CNN Turk, a local broadcaster, said.
